Introduction to Walnest
Where protection meets love, Walnest is a brand that specializes in crafting high-quality birdcages, coops, and dog crates that prioritize the comfort and well-being of pets. The story of Walnest begins with a young carpenter named Eli, who, after rescuing a storm-tossed sparrow, built a tiny wooden nest under his eaves. This act of kindness sparked a dream, which he named "Walnest," a blend of protection and comfort.
Our Philosophy
At Walnest, we believe that pets deserve homes, not just enclosures. Every product we craft is designed to provide a sanctuary for your pets, prioritizing their safety, comfort, and happiness. Our mission is to create sturdy, smooth, and caring spaces where your pets can thrive.
Product Features
Our birdcages and coops are designed with the following features:
- Industrial-Strength Structural Design: Primary frames are constructed with 20×20mm steel square tubing (0.8mm wall thickness), forming a rigid skeleton to withstand outdoor use.
- Walk-in Space: Dimensions of 10ft (L) × 5.25ft (W) × 6.8ft (H) create a spacious area for both birds and owners to enter for cleaning or interaction.
- Mesh Reinforcement: 2mm-diameter carbon steel wire woven into 2×8.5mm grid mesh ensures airflow, visibility, and prevents small birds from escaping.
- Bird-Friendly Accessories: Include natural wooden perches for climbing and foot exercise, mimicking natural tree branches, and stainless steel bird bowls for food and water.
- Dedicated Feeding Portal: A small "feeding door" allows for quick refills of food and water without entering the main walk-in area, minimizing stress for birds.
- Enhanced Anti-Rust Engineering: Beveled tubing edges and triple-coated seams create a moisture-resistant barrier to prevent rust, extending the cage’s outdoor lifespan.
Pros
- Durable and Sturdy: Built to last with industrial-strength materials and design.
- Comfortable for Pets: Prioritizes the comfort and well-being of birds and other pets.
- Easy to Clean and Maintain: Walk-in design and dedicated feeding portal make daily care stress-free for both pets and owners.
- Safe: Anti-rust engineering and secure mesh reinforcement ensure a safe haven for pets.
Cons
- Large Space Requirement: The walk-in design requires a significant amount of space, which may not be suitable for all homes or backyards.
- High-Quality Materials May Increase Cost: The use of high-quality, durable materials can make the product more expensive than other options on the market.

It’s takes awhile to put it together
We bought this cage for our raccoons that live in the house. They have run of our den but need a safe place to sleep. I love this cage. It took my husband and I about 6 hrs to put together. Don’t tighten everything down until you have it together or stuff won’t line up. My babies that are 5 months old are loving it.It will not be outside so don’t worry about rust. I just wipe it down with Clorox wipes.

A lot of work to save a little money
This beast was a nightmare to assemble. You have to leave everything loose until the end or it won’t fit together and that is nearly impossible with something this size.It rusted immediately. Not a lot but in several places. There is 0 protection inside the bars so if any moisture gets in they will rust from the inside out any dent or scratch also rusted within hours. I was surprised it came with only 3 dents and 2 panels that had damaged bars. They were easy to fix can fix but you have to ensure you paint over it immediately with rustoleum or it will rust, and then wait 10 days before allowing birds inside. I also painted the inside of each bars an inch or two to try to prevent internal rust.My primary concern is some of the bars are welded and not flush and there is just enough of a gap where a toe could get stuck and cause serious injury. Should either be flush or large enough for a large birds toe to get in and out.All in all of you are willing to put 40 hours of work into making it better/right, it does look nice and will work as a nice aviary. You might save 1-2 thousand on this from name brands. I got it because it is the only one that allows you to expand it. Which also means if a panel is severely damaged I dont have to buy a whole new aviary, I can buy the expansion.
