The budgies love it.
We are a budgie loving family. We have two young budgies, who needed a space to feel safe in when they aren’t hanging out with us. They entered our family with clipped wings and we had to accommodate for that when thinking about setting up their habitat. Budgies have the brain capacity for language and trick learning that is equal and in some cases exceeds the African Gray. Having adequate housing that allows for flight and forging is important to their mental and physical health both of which are essential to being able to create a bond of trust with your birds. Sad grumpy birds make horrible pets and companions. The size and price of this cage were the big considerations that we looked at in choosing it.The only Pros that matter:My birds love it. It was affordable enough that I could provide it for them. I sleep well at night knowing they are happy and safe!The Pros you may want to consider:The cage is twice the size of anything you will find at a pet store for the same price. The width is enough for short flights and by placing our birds food near the bottom we ensure lots of climbing exercise throughout the day as well. The bar spacing is safe for preventing budgie heads getting through, but also far enough distance to be used for gripping and climbing. It came with perches and food dishes that can be used to get started. It also came with wire ladders and platforms that the birds utilize all the time. The two large doors in front allow you to access most of the cage easily, however a third middle door would have been amazing to have. I also like that the large front doors do have security slides that prevent birds from opening them.Cons to consider:Assembly: Some of the pieces came slightly bent making it harder to put together. Not all of the corners fit together exactly square. The awkwardness of the size and pieces not being plum made it a build project I would recommended you have three people to do. I had one helper and it took us about an hour to put together. It would have gone much quicker if the tops and bottoms of the side pieces were labeled. In addition to having to force some pieces into being less bowed, we had to occasionally take things apart flip them over and reattach them.Cleaning: Because of the cage corners not being square, the bottom grid and tray do not slide out easily for cleaning. Let’s not kid ourselves anything that makes cleaning more of a chore is a pretty big negative.Mobility: I wish the had drilled four holes and provided screws and wing nuts to secure the cage to the stand. This would make it much more secure for moving while also allowing it to still be removable. I plan on doing this as I like to move it in and out on sunny days (Never leave your birds outside unsupervised. Hawks will make short work of a wire cage!)Bird ready: I also would have liked to have it come with at least one natural perch rather than two dowels. The plastic food container are usable and plentiful (it came with 6) but I am replacing them with stainless steel. The food and nesting doors don’t have safety latches, so be prepared with eight clips or pieces of bird safe string to secure them shut.There is no seed guard anywhere along the bottom or with the food cups. You will need some. Birds are messy.I hope this helps. I read the reviews before buying it and don’t regret my decision, but their are improvements the manufacturer could make that would bring this product up to five stars.
